A Promissing Sarod Player of "Maihar Senia Gherana"

Reeta Das, Sarod Player


Reeta Das forte is Sarod playing in the Dhrupad and Veena tradition of Maihar Senia Gherana. One traces in her renditions of Ragas the subtle nuances of the maestros Padma vibhushan Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Ustad Bahadur Khan in whose association she spent several years as a disciple. An ardent votary of perfection, she continues to receive guidance from Ustad Ashish Khan, Pt. Sunil Mukherjee and of course, her father, Prof. C.L.Das, assiduously assimilating the intricacies of her gherana.

Professional Training:
She started learning Sarod at a very young age under her father, Prof. C.L.Das, a disciple of Padma Vibhushan Acharya Allauddin Khan of Maihar, an eminent musicologist and professor Emirate of English Literature. Later, she also received training of instrumental music under Shri Bimalendu Mukherjee, ex Vice-Chancellor, Indira kala Music University, Khairagarh.

Performances:
A consummate artist, Reeta Das has performed several times on the Doordershan and is a graded artist of AIR, Delhi.Accomplished in executing Tantrakari in the Maihar gharana style also, a highly sensitive renditions of melodies, she has regaled connoisseurs in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Gwalior, Guahati, Shimoga (karnataka) and several places in Bihar.
